In this post we are showing a short and fashionable hair cut, style, and colour by Nadi.  The photoshoot was done in April 2018 at JOY Salon in Armstrong BC.

Fashionable short hairstyle

The haircut featured in this post is a fashionable and edgy look.  It is asymmetrical, which means that it is not balanced. There is a disconnected hard part separating the side from the top. There are several sections of bold red colour that complement the confident style!

Nadia's is experienced at doing short cuts

Nadia loves to do all short hair cuts including standard pixies and bobs, and more edgy asymmetrical cuts like the short cut featured here.  Short cuts are more difficult to get right than longer hairstyles.  There are more things that must be balanced in short cuts. The cuts must be done to promote volume for styling, texturizing to help them grow out, and proportions and angels must be precise. For short cuts, knowledge about how a face shape is complemented by the hair is more important than it is for long cuts! Nadia has many years of experience and has owned her own hair salon since she was 18 years old.  She would love to work with your hair!

In this post we are showing a wedding updo hairstyle service done by Nadia Barkema.  This was done in 2017 before she owned JOY Salon in Armstrong BC. 

All up wedding hair

Nadia loves to do all up wedding hairstyles like the one shown in these photos.  The large curls give the hair great definition which makes beautiful wedding photos.  When doing a wedding hairstyle like the one shown in these photos it is very important the hair is clipped into place properly.  The style often has to hold in place the whole day, but at the same time, the clips should not be visible for photos!

Nadia's is experienced at doing wedding hair

Nadia did many wedding hairstyles at her previous salon in Nanaimo.  She has marketed herself specifically for doing wedding hairstyles at her previous salon and continues to do so now that she is in the Okanagan.  She is willing to travel to your location so that you don't need to come to her salon on your special and very busy day.

Rose Gold Balayage Photoshoot done February 2018

All of the photos on our website, www.joysalon.ca, show hair cuts and hair colour services done by Nadia Barkema.  In early February 2018, we posted on Facebook looking for a model for a hair photoshoot.  We initially wanted to do one photoshoot, but we received such a positive response.  This is the third photoshoots we did.  For this photoshoot Nadia did a rose gold balayage effect that softly shifts colour from the root all the way to the tips of her hair.

The hair shown here was done by Nadia Barkema who has  14 years of experience doing hair.  Nadia owned her last salon, and as the owner she was the last stop to help clients get the look they wanted.  She has done many fixes, colour corrections, wedding up-styles, hair extensions, and other advanced hair services.

The hair shown here was done by Nadia Barkema who is the Master Stylist at JOY Salon in Armstrong BC.  Nadia has 14 years experience doing hair and has previously owned two other salons and during this time she has done many silver balayage hair colours while working as a stylist.  She has moved back to the Armstrong area after living on Vancouver Island for the past six years.  Nadia would still love to build more clients at JOY Salon as we have only been open for two months (Since December 2017).

Hair Photoshoots

Nadia has a great portfolio of hair photos that showcases her ability to a wide variety of hair services.   This silver balayage hair colour is one example of her work,  but we're still in the early stages of building our website and filling it with her work.  We are excited to share her work with anyone who is interested to see it! 

A couple of weeks ago we posted on Facebook looking for a model for a hair photoshoot.  We had a great response, and our choice of many beautiful people local to the North Okanagan who expressed interest in being our hair model.  We ended up planning for three hair photoshoots, and have already done the first two.  Our first model was done to show a bright blonde makeover, and we are showing the results here in this post!

A balayage hair colour is a method of applying colour to hair so that the hair remains natural looking.  Often the roots are left close to natural so that there is little maintenance required as the colour grows out.  The colour can be applied by free-hand painting and in combination with foils as is the case for this photoshoot.  Free-hand painting colour allows for more creativity, while foils allow for more precise control over the colour separation.  

This is a beautiful and trendy look, that is easy to maintain.
